Use the Control Panel to choose the SAP clients in your workspace. It has two lists:

  • Connected Systems contains the connections open for this session.
  • AutoStart Systems contains saved connections that userXpress can open at startup.

A client can appear in both lists. Removing it from one list has a different purpose from removing it from the other.

Commands

Location and command When to use it
Connected Systems → Add Connect a client you want to work with now. You can also save it for AutoStart in the logon dialog.
Connected Systems → Remove Disconnect the selected client and remove its data from the global tables.
AutoStart Systems → Add Save another startup connection and connect it now.
Double-click an AutoStart Systems entry Open a saved connection, or update its password logon details before connecting.
AutoStart Systems → Remove Remove the selected entry from the saved startup list. An open connection remains available in Connected Systems.
AutoStart is On / AutoStart is Off Enable or disable automatic connection for the whole saved list.

See Connect to SAP for the procedures and Loading systems for AutoStart progress and results.

Connected Systems columns

The list identifies each open connection and shows information read from SAP when it was opened.

  • Destination: The description of the entry selected from the SAP Logon connection list. Use it to recognize the system by the name your organization uses.
  • Name: The system ID and client combined into a connection name. For example, DEVCLNT100 identifies system DEV, client 100.
  • System: The SAP system ID, such as DEV.
  • Client Type: The client’s purpose recorded in SAP: Production, Test, Customizing, Demo, Training/Education or SAP reference. A blank means no recognized client role was returned.
  • Product: The installed SAP product description. A blank means product information was unavailable.
  • CUA: An icon identifying a Central User Administration central or child system. Point to the icon for its description. A blank means CUA is not reported as active for this connection.
  • DB Host: The database host reported by SAP.
  • DB Type: The database system used by SAP.
  • IP: The application server’s IP address returned by SAP.
  • Kernel: The SAP kernel release reported by the server.
  • OS: The application server’s operating system.

Destination names come from SAP Logon. To use a renamed entry, select it through Add. The combined Name is built by userXpress from the system and client.

SAP’s client classification is maintained through transaction SCC4, in the Client Role field. The labels in userXpress describe that SAP setting. See SAP’s client-role reference.

To display the CUA relationship in SAP, open SCUA → Distribution Model → Display Structure. CUA configuration is maintained in the central system. SAP’s CUA structure documentation describes this view.

Additional connection columns

These columns are hidden in the default layout. User ID, App Server and RFC Destination help identify the account and server behind a connection.

  • User ID: The SAP account used by this connection, including the account resolved by SNC single sign-on. Operations on the connection use this account’s authorizations.
  • App Server: The host name of the application server handling the connection.
  • RFC Destination: The server-side destination identifier returned by SAP. Destination instead shows the entry name from your SAP Logon list.
  • Timezone: The application server’s time difference from UTC, expressed in seconds.
  • DST: The daylight-saving indicator returned by the application server.

The following columns contain low-level server information that support can use when investigating a connection problem:

  • Char Set: The RFC protocol value returned by SAP. Despite the heading, this value does not identify the server’s character encoding.
  • Floating Point: SAP’s code for the server’s floating-point number format.
  • Integer Format: SAP’s code for the server’s integer number format.
  • Machine ID: The machine identifier returned by SAP.
  • IPV6: This column is empty in userXpress 2.0.0.0. Use IP for the address returned by the server.

Server details are read when the connection opens. An empty field means that value was not supplied to the table.

Connection interruption columns

Use Error No to identify a connection that userXpress is trying to restore:

  • 0: The connection opened successfully, or reconnection succeeded.
  • 3: The connection monitor detected an interruption and is trying to reconnect.

Error Text remains empty for these connection-monitor states. For a saved AutoStart connection, read Comment in AutoStart Systems for the reconnect message and attempt number.

These two columns describe userXpress connection monitoring. They have no corresponding SAP account field.

View system information in SAP

For SAP system, host and database information, open System → Status in SAP GUI. Other kernel info shows the kernel details. These are display values supplied by the server. See SAP’s system-status reference.

AutoStart Systems columns

Use this list to identify a saved connection and read its latest connection result.

  • System Description: The saved SAP Logon entry name.
  • Client: The three-digit client to connect.
  • Client Type: The last client classification saved after connecting. It is blank until a recognized classification has been obtained.
  • LogonUserID: The saved SAP user for password authentication. SNC single sign-on entries can have a blank user ID because SAP determines the account from the sign-on identity.
  • Status icon: The connection result, explained below. Read it together with Comment.
  • Comment: The latest connection message, including a connection time, error or disconnection message. It is blank before a message has been recorded in the session.

The list stores connection settings and results in userXpress. To change a saved logon, use the AutoStart Logon dialog.

Connection status icons

  • Server icon without a result marker: No successful connection is recorded for this entry in the session, or it has been disconnected. Comment distinguishes these cases.
  • Success marker: The last connection attempt succeeded.
  • Error marker: The connection attempt failed. Comment contains the error.
  • Reconnection marker: The connection was unexpectedly lost and userXpress is trying to reconnect. Comment describes that attempt.

For the clients available to work with now, open Connected Systems. For a failed saved connection, follow If a connection fails.
