Copy roles between clients

Copy Roles.. copies role definitions between clients. It is not the same as copying one user’s role assignments to another user. For assignment changes, use Manage roles.

Connect the source and target clients first. You need permission to read the source role and to import and generate it in each target. Follow your SAP change-control process: importing a role can affect an existing definition and therefore users who depend on it.

Select and copy

1. In the Global User Table toolbar, choose Copy Roles...
2. Wait for the role list to load. Under Select Roles, select the source role rows. Check their source system/client, not just the names. Use Role Filter to narrow the list if needed.
3. Under Select Systems, select the destination clients.
4. Review the selected roles and targets against the approved access change.
5. Choose Copy Roles.
6. Open Results and check each source-role/target-client combination.

The operation reads the role definition from its source, imports it into the target and attempts to generate it. These are separate stages: successful import does not prove successful generation.

Import and generation progress are shown separately; an imported role may still be processing.

Check partial results

Inspect both the target-client comments and the detailed Results. A role without authorization data may not generate successfully. A failure for one role or target can be followed by work on others, so the final completion message is not proof that every copy succeeded.

Before retrying, check the actual role in the target client, including its generation status. Use the returned SAP message and your change-control procedure to decide the next action. Closing or cancelling an operation does not undo role definitions already imported.
